Recombinant Mouse Ifngis a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 134 amino acids andhaving a molecular weight of 15,601Da. The sequence of the first fiveN-terminal amino acids was determined to be Met-His-Gly-Thr-Val.;Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons.Interferon-gamma(IFN-γ) is a dimerized soluble cytokine that is the only member of the typeII class of interferons. This interferon was originally calledmacrophage-activating factor, a term now used to describe a larger family ofproteins to which IFN-γ belongs.
